The Rockland Silk Mill, constructed in 1894, is located in the heart of Hornell, NY. In the 19th century, the Rockland Silk Mill property was in close proximity to the New York and Lake Erie railroad line, making the city of Hornell well-positioned for industrial pursuits. The Rockland Silk Company was established by Edwin Brown, who was known for his silk ventures in New Jersey. By 1915, the city of Hornell was home to six silk mills, earning the nickname of “City of Silk.” The Rockland Silk Mill serves as a historic building and represents the booming silk industry in Hornell. Renovated in 2021, the industrial building’s historic characteristics were kept intact. The Lofts at Rockland Silk Mill feature studio, one, and two-bedroom units that boast historic charm and industrial features.
